Green transport routes
We are working with Western Australian local governments to create scenic paths that encourage people to walk, wheel and ride.
Developing paths that are visually appealing plays an important role in encouraging and keeping people walking, wheeling and riding. Combining natural planting and greenery is one way to increase appeal.
The green transport routes initiative aims to blend path infrastructure with local surroundings to create a more pleasant walking and riding experience by increasing natural landscaping, shade, shelter and amenity.
Involving local governments and communities, green transport routes are designed and maintained to ensure they complement and add to an area's biodiversity and character.
Pilot Project
The Department of Transport and Main Roads Western Australia have been working with the Town of Bassendean to deliver a Green Transport Route pilot project as part of the Success Hill to Railway Parade Principal Shared Path.
