Veteran, vintage, post vintage or invitational vehicle concessions

Available concession

List of Federal Government Concessions
Vehicle must Rate Conditions
  • Be owned by a financial member of a CEO approved car club, formed for restoring and/or collecting motor vehicles and/or motorcycles.
  • Be in original or unmodified condition.
  • Fit into one of the following categories: 
  • Veteran: manufactured prior to and including 1918.
  • Vintage: manufactured between 1919 and 1930.
  • Post vintage: manufactured between 1931 and 1949 inclusive.
  • Invitation: manufactured after 01/01/1950 but no less than 25 years old*

100% exemption from vehicle licence fee and vehicle licence duty.

Reduced rate on third party insurance (except trailers).

Vehicle used only relating to club events or for road test. 

‘Veteran’, ‘Post Vintage’, ‘Vintage’ or ‘Invitation’ or Historic’

to be affixed in the form of a sticker or plate affixed above or below each of the vehicle's number plates.

Not to carry a load for hire or reward unless the licence is restored to full rates.

Where the vehicle is used during hours of darkness it must be fitted with appropriate lighting or it will be restricted to daylight use only.

* If you own a 'unique' or 'historic' vehicle under 25 years old you may, under exceptional circumstances, be eligible to apply for this concession. Further information on 'unique' or 'historic' vehicles can be located in the Frequently Asked Questions section below, or on the Council of Motoring Clubs of WA website.

Notes:

  • Concession can be applied to vehicles, trailers or caravans.
  • The owner must be a resident of Western Australia.
  • Car clubs are also eligible for a 100% concession on club vehicles if the club is a legal entity as defined as:
    • A corporate body;
    • An incorporated body; or
    • Any other organisation that is recognised as being a legal entity.
  • A vehicle licence with this concession is not transferable without the approval of Concessions Section.

How to apply for a veteran, vintage, post vintage or invitational vehicle concession

  • Applicants must submit a Vintage/Veteran/Post Vintage/Invitation Class Vehicle Licence Concession Application (Form E81) along with a 'Certification of Financial Membership' (CMC1 form). 
  • If the vehicle is an ‘Unique’ or ‘Historic’ vehicle, an ‘Application for Assessment of a Unique/Historic Vehicle (CMC 2)’ form must also be provided along with the above documentation upon application.

The CMC1 and CMC2 forms can be downloaded from the Council of Motoring Clubs of WA website and must be signed by an authorised representative of your club or association. 

Licensed vehicles

If the vehicle is currently licensed, applications can be forwarded by mail to the address shown in the Frequently Asked Questions section below, or submitted in-person at any Driver and Vehicle Services Centre, regional DoT office or agent.

The application must be supported by the following:

  • Current vehicle licence papers.
  • Completed 'Vintage/Veteran/Post Vintage/Invitation Class Vehicle Licence Concession Application' (Form E81).
  • Completed 'Certification of Financial Membership' (CMC1 form) - available for download on the Council of Motoring Clubs of WA website.
  • If the vehicle is an ‘Unique’ or ‘Historic’ vehicle, an ‘Application for Assessment of a Unique/Historic Vehicle (CMC 2)’ form must also be provided - available for download on the Council of Motoring Clubs of WA website.

Unlicensed vehicles

If the vehicle is not currently licensed it must be inspected by an Authorised Inspection Station. Once the vehicle has passed inspection the owner will need to present the application in person at any Driver and Vehicle Services centre, regional DoT office or agent.

The application must be supported by the following:

  • Certificate of Inspection or MR number for the trailer/vehicle.
  • Proof of vehicle ownership, for example, receipt of purchase, or previous vehicle licence showing present owner's name.
  • Proof of Identity, for example, driver's licence or passport.
  • Completed 'Vintage/Veteran/Post Vintage/Invitation Class Vehicle Licence Concession Application' (Form E81).
  • Completed 'Certification of Financial Membership' (CMC1 form) - available for download on the Council of Motoring Clubs of WA website.
  • If the vehicle is an ‘Unique’ or ‘Historic’ vehicle, an ‘Application for Assessment of a Unique/Historic Vehicle (CMC 2)’ form must also be provided - available for download on the Council of Motoring Clubs of WA website.
