Installation of objects in WA navigable waters

To install any objects in Western Australian navigable waters managed by the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI), you must complete and submit the formal application below, along with the required supporting documentation listed in the form, to navigational.safety@transport.wa.gov.au

This application is a regulatory requirement under Western Australian maritime legislation, including the Navigable Waters Regulations 1958 and the Western Australian Marine Act 1982. This process allows for the object and location to be assessed to ensure the safe navigation of waterway users, environmental protection, and effective stakeholder coordination.

The process applies to both temporary and permanent installations of surface or subsurface objects such as data buoys, artificial reefs, monitoring stations, scientific equipment etc.

Applications must be submitted at least 28 days prior to deployment.

Failure to submit a complete and timely application may result in delays or denial of the proposal.
