Johns Creek Boat Harbour is located in Point Samson on the eastern tip of the Dampier Archipelago and approximately 1,500 kilometres north of Perth. 

The harbour is protected by breakwaters and facilities include boat pens, boat launch ramps, fuel and public toilets.

Point Samson is a relaxed and picturesque coastal village surrounded by mangrove forests. It is a popular holiday destination and is famous for fishing and snorkelling, protected sandy beaches and sunsets.  

Facilities

Service jetty

There is a service jetty with single and three phase power, water and lighting. Berths alongside the jetty can dry out at high tide.

Wharf load limits

  • Berth load: 75 tonne displacement vessel berthing at a maximum of 0.25 m/s at a maximum approach angle of 15°
  • Stack load: 750 kg/m²
  • Crane load: 5 tonne gross weight
  • Vehicle load: M9 standard load

Land backed wharf

There is a land backed wharf with single and three phase power, water, lighting and heavy lift pad for crane lifts. At the southern end of the land backed wharf, there is a special purpose net berth for fishing vessel net removal and maintenance. 

Wharf load limits

  • Berth load: 250 tonne displacement vessel berthing at a maximum of 0.3 m/s at a maximum approach angle of 15°
  • Stack load: 2000 kg/m²
  • Crane load: 20 tonne gross weight with outriggers
  • Vehicle load: T44 standard load

Boat ramp

There is a dual lane concrete launching ramp, with a multi-level catwalk operated by the City of Karratha, and sealed car and boat trailer parking. 

Fuelling facility

Fuel available on from pens 2, 3 and 7 by request.  The service is provided by Baileys Marine Fuels Australia and a fuel card is required.

Hardstand

The hardstand is located to the east of the harbour basin and includes a heavy lift pad for crane lifts. 

Careening pad

A three-pile careening pad is available for vessels. This is a "natural" boat lifter that uses the high tides of the area to position vessels on the pad.

Toilets/showers

There is a universal access public toilet located near the boat ramp car park.

The harbour basin and entrance channel area has been dredged to a depth of 2.0 metre below chart datum. 

The harbour bed at the existing pens can become exposed at low tide.

The tidal range at the harbour is approximately from -0.4 metre to 5.9 metre.

There are 3 breakwaters to protect the harbour from waves.
