The management and regulation of heavy vehicles on Western Australia’s (WA) roads is jointly managed by Main Roads WA (MRWA) and the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI).
Operationally, MRWA manages road access for vehicles that have been permitted or licensed for road use by DTMI.
Interstate heavy vehicle operators
Under the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), heavy vehicles registered in WA that travel into other states or territories must comply with HVNL requirements. Similarly, heavy vehicles entering WA from interstate must follow WA’s specific heavy vehicle laws and regulations.
If you are a WA-based interstate heavy vehicle operator, you are required to carry all necessary documentation when travelling interstate to meet HVNL compliance. The specific documents required can be found on the NHVR website.
Heavy vehicles travelling into WA from interstate must comply with WA’s heavy vehicle laws and regulations. This includes carrying the correct documentation when entering WA.
Before operating on WA roads, check the MRWA website to confirm that you have the appropriate permits.
