Online vessel transfers are currently available to individuals only.
The DoTDirect transfer process for boats must be initiated by the seller. To transfer a vessel online you will need to provide:
- purchaser’s surname
- purchaser’s Western Australian driver’s license number
- date of sale
- vessel registration number.
You cannot transfer a vessel online if it is:
- owned by a company
- part of a court order
- part of a deceased estate.
- jointly owned
- does not have a Hull Identification Number (HIN) (i.e. HIN is not recorded on the registration certificate).
Step 1: Log in to DoTDirect
To transfer your boat online, you must login to your DoTDirect account here.

Step 2: Navigate to the 'Recreational boats' page
Once logged in to DoTDirect, use the top navigation bar to navigate to the 'Recreational boats' page, which can be found under the 'Marine' drop down.
Step 3: Click the link to 'transfer the boat online'
On the 'Recreational boats' page, you will be able to find all of the vessels registered to your account.
You can also find information here like each vessel's HIN, registration number, status and expiry date.
To begin an online vessel transfer, click 'transfer the boat online', which can be found at the bottom of the page.
Step 4: Confirm the transfer is eligible
The next step is to confirm your boat is eligible to be transferred online. The transfer process must be initiated by the seller. This step also asks you to confirm that you will be able to provide the required information from the purchaser, including his Western Australian driver’s license number
You cannot transfer a vessel online if it is:
- owned by a company
- part of a court order
- part of a deceased estate.
- jointly owned
- does not have a Hull Identification Number (HIN) (i.e. HIN is not recorded on the registration certificate).
Once you confirmed the details of the boat transfer click 'Next' to continue.
Step 5: Read the Terms and Conditions
Please read the 'Terms and Conditions' applying to Online Recreational Boat Transfers.
Once you have read and understand the Terms and Conditions, tick the 'I have read and agree to the terms and conditions of use.' box, and press 'Next' to continue on to the next step.
Step 6: Confirm the boat being transferred
Confirm the boat you wish to transfer by selecting it from the drop-down box.
Once the correct vessel is selected, click 'Next'.
Step 7: Provide the purchaser details
Provide the purchaser details in the relevant text box. To proceed you will need to provide the purchaser's surname and driver's licence number.
Once you have entered these correctly, click 'Next' to continue.
Step 8: Provide the date sold
Use the date selector to enter the date the vessel was sold.
Once you have entered the correct date, click 'Next' to continue.
Step 9: Confirm the transfer
On this page you will be able to review all of the information you have provided. Please carefully read all of the information and ensure it is correct.
Once you have confirmed all information is correct, you must tick the box to declare that all the information provided is true and correct. Once this is done, you can complete the transfer by clicking the 'Transfer' button in the bottom right.
Transfer complete
Your boat transfer is complete. You will see a summary of the transfer which can be printed. You will also receive a receipt to your email to confirm the transfer.
