Taking a PDA with an RTO

An RTO must verify and confirm your eligibility to undertake heavy vehicle training or a PDA using the Licence Assessment Provider System (LAPS).

You will need to:

• complete and sign the Heavy Vehicle PDA Customer Eligibility (Form E114)
• pass a commercial vehicle eyesight test
• complete the relevant training module, such as:
  • TLIC3004 - Drive Heavy Rigid vehicle (HR training)
  • TLIC3005 - Drive Heavy Combination vehicle (HC training)
  • TLIC4006 - Drive Multi Combination vehicle (MC training).

If you fail the eyesight test or do not declare your commercial standard medical eligibility, you will not be able to undertake training or the PDA.

On the day of your PDA

On the day of your PDA, the training organisation will reconfirm your eligibility to undertake the assessment.

If you are ineligible the PDA will not go ahead. For example, you will be ineligible if your driver’s licence has expired.

If you pass the PDA, your results will be uploaded digitally to your driver’s licence record.

Once you have passed your practical driving assessment, you will need to visit a Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) centre, regional DoT office or agent to have your licence endorsed.

You must bring:

• photocopy of the completed E114 form signed by the registered training organisation
• proof of identity documents.

Practical driving assessment video, audio and GPS recording

All approved RTOs must use in-cabin video, audio and GPS surveillance cameras to record heavy vehicle PDAs.

The recording of PDAs emphasises and enhances DoT’s commitment to road safety and customer service for heavy vehicle PDAs.

If you choose to take your heavy vehicle PDA with a registered training organisation, you must sign the camera acknowledgement on the Heavy Vehicle PDA Customer Eligibility Form (E114) to acknowledge your PDA will be recorded under camera.

You can view the recording upon completion of the PDA, upon request.
