NDIS worker screening checks
Find out what you need to do for your NDIS worker screening check.
DoT conducts National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) worker screening checks on behalf of the Department of Communities and the NDIS.
There are three steps to submitting a NDIS worker screening check.
Step 1: Apply for your worker screening check through DoTDirect
- Log into your DoTDirect account or create a DoTDirect account if you do not already have one.
- Navigate to the NDIS tab at the top of the screen
- Click ‘Worker screening’
- Provide the requested information exactly as it appears on your proof of identity documents.
Step two: Attend a Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) centre, regional office or agent with your proof of identity documents to have them verified
The Department of Communities sets the proof of identity requirements for NDIS worker screening checks.
NDIS worker screening proof of identity requirements are different to the POI requirements for DoT transactions.
The NDIS worker screening check standard proof of identity documents details the documents that can be used.
- Applicants must provide four identity documents from three categories.
- You need to provide originals of these documents.
- You can only use each document once, across the three categories.
- Refer to the NDIS Standard Proof of Identity Document Factsheet above.
- The combination of documents must contain the applicant’s full name, date of birth and a photograph.
- If your identity documents are in a former name, such as a maiden name, you must provide evidence of the name change (such as change of name certificate issued by the Australian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages) in addition to the four documents.
When your identity has been verified, and you have paid the application fee, your application will be submitted to the Department of Communities.
Step three: The Department of Communities Screening Unit will assess your NDIS worker screening check application and advise you of the outcome.
Your DoTDirect account will record whether your application has been successful.
Please note, DoT is not involved in the assessment of NDIS worker screening applications.
Please follow up with the Department of Communities if you require further information.
