First licence in the family a pathway to opportunity for Amy

No one in Amy’s family had ever had their licence. Amy decided to change this and was determined to be the first.

“I knew I needed to get my licence for my family,” said Amy.

As a single parent, Amy had to rely on lifts and often spent money she didn’t always have on taxis just to get around.

Amy enrolled in the McGovern Foundation’s Wanderer Program, which is a Driving Access and Equity Program grant recipient.

With the support of driving supervisor Eliza, Amy slowly built up her confidence, and even though she failed her first driving test Eliza worked with Amy to keep practising and she passed the next time round.

Eliza said Amy was breaking the cycle in her family.

“Congratulations to Amy, she's proved to herself she can do anything,” Eliza said.
