All passenger transport drivers and on-demand booking services (ODBSs) that operate in WA must be authorised by the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI). This includes taxi, charter, rideshare, limousine and party bus services.
To ensure the safety of passengers, drivers and the public, DTMI requires authorised providers to regularly provide National Police Certificates and undergo medical checks. Passengers are encouraged to only take trips with authorised providers.
Use the DTMI look-ups below to check that your provider is authorised.
Driver authorisation look-up
ODBS authorisation look-up
Note: These search services are provided as a guide to the authorisation status of providers at the time of the check. It is, however, not conclusive proof that a driver or ODBS holds an authorisation
If you’re concerned about the status of an authorisation, you can email On-demand Transport at ondemandtransport@transport.wa.gov.au.
FAQs
To look up a driver’s authorisation, click the ‘Check your driver’ button at the top of the page and enter their PTD authorisation number.
PTD authorisation numbers are five or six digits long, and should be displayed on a driver identity document that includes the driver’s:
- first name;
- authorisation number; and
- a photo.
The driver identity document should be available to you when you book your trip, or visible inside the vehicle or on the trip details screen in your booking app.
If you can’t locate the driver’s authorisation number, you can ask the driver or ODBS to provide it to you.
Visit the Driver identification page for more information, including examples of what a driver identity document looks like.
To look up an ODBS’s authorisation, click the ‘Check your ODBS’ button at the top of the page and enter their:
- ODBS authorisation number;
- ODBS provider name; or
- business name.
You should be able to find these details on the vehicle and on the ODBS’s app or website.
If you’re in a taxi, ODBS details (including name and authorisation number) should be located both inside and outside the vehicle, and on your receipt.
If you’re in a charter vehicle, there should be signage in the left of the rear window or livery on the outside of the vehicle, that tells you the ODBS name or logo.
If you can’t find your driver or ODBS with these searches, they may not be authorised, and you should choose another provider.
Please contact DTMI on 13 11 56, or email ondemandtransport@transport.wa.gov.au to report them. Visit the Reporting offences page to learn what information to provide in your report.
If you cannot find your PTD or ODBS authorisation using the look-up search, you or your ODBS may not be properly authorised.
For assistance, contact DTMI on 13 11 56 or via email at ondemandtransport@transport.wa.gov.au.
