Passenger transport web services
Passenger transport web services are an extension of the Driver and Vehicle Industry Dashboard (DVID), allowing on-demand booking services (ODBSs) to access authorisation status data to integrate with their own digital systems (like dispatch software).
There is no charge from the Department of Transport (DoT) to access and use the passenger transport web services, and the DVID will remain available to all ODBSs and other authorised entities who do not wish to use the web services.
ODBSs will need to utilise software developers or other technical experts to use the passenger transport web services.
What are passenger transport web services?
Passenger transport web services allow authorised on-demand booking services (ODBSs) to access passenger transport vehicle (PTV) and passenger transport driver (PTD) authorisation status data to integrate with their own applications.
There are two passenger transport web services available to authorised ODBSs (and other authorised entities).
- The PTD dashboard allows authorised users check the PTD authorisation status of a person.
- The PTV dashboard allows authorised users to check the PTV authorisation status of a vehicle.
For example, as an ODBS you could use the web services to automatically check that your drivers and vehicles are authorised when a driver logs on for a shift.
There is no charge from the Department of Transport (DoT) to access and use the web services – they are an extension of the service already provided through the Driver and Vehicle Industry Dashboard.
How is this different to the Driver and Vehicle Industry Dashboard
The Driver and Vehicle Industry Dashboard (DVID) is an online portal that allows authorised ODBSs (and other authorised entities) to view authorisation details about passenger transport drivers and vehicles they dispatch work to.
The DVID portal is accessible through the ODBS’s DoTDirect account, with drivers and vehicles added either:
- on a single-entry basis; or
- by uploading a CSV file containing details for multiple entries.
The passenger transport web services provide access to the same information but allow ODBSs to query authorisation status data through their own digital systems (such as dispatch software).
Note: the DVID will remain available to all ODBSs and other authorised entities who do not wish to use the passenger transport web services.
Read more about the DVID.
Who should use the passenger transport web services?
While passenger transport web services are available to all authorised ODBSs (and other authorised entities), ODBSs must have or develop their own digital solutions to access the web services, that are fully owned and supported by the ODBS.
This means utilising software developers or similar technical experts.
DoT is unable to develop or provide IT support for your own digital solutions.
Your software developers or other technical staff should consult the Passenger transport web services OpenAPI specification file (below) for detailed information – to download this file, please right-click the below link and select "Save link as". How to access passenger transport web services
The Passenger transport web services user guide (below) provides detailed instructions about:
- how to get access to passenger transport web services; and
- what to do if your credentials are misplaced or forgotten.
As outlined above, ODBSs and other authorised entities should work with their own software developers to access the web services.
Before you access the web services, it is essential to read and understand the Terms and conditions outlined in the section below – you will be required to accept these when you request access.
