Our purpose, values and strategic direction

Our purpose

Empowering a thriving community.

These 4 words describe why we do what we do.

It means we support people to participate in activities that enrich their lives, connect them to family and friends and support their community.

Our values

Our values are our guiding principles that reflect who we are and what we stand for. At the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI), we have 4 key values.

Collaboration

Working together, we get things done. We share knowledge and resources as we work as a team to achieve our purpose and accomplish beneficial solutions with our colleagues and the community.

Wellbeing

We recognise the importance of every person’s emotional and physical safety, creating an inclusive, supportive and positive workplace for ourselves, each other and our community.

Adaptability

We are always open to possibilities. We are aware of and responsive to the changing needs of our community. We are curious, we try new things, and we support each other to grow. We challenge the status quo with creative thinking and fresh ideas. We're confident and are encouraged to be bold in the decisions we make and actions we take in service of the community.

Accountability

Taking ownership, we deliver. We all have a part to play in making things happen. We are clear about our individual roles and we take ownership to deliver on our commitments. We make informed and transparent decisions and are responsible for our actions. We ask questions, share information, and seek and respond to feedback. We are aligned with our Values and uphold the highest levels of integrity.

Our strategic direction

We plan and deliver transport solutions and services for the prosperity of all Western Australians.

To do this, we are committed to the highest standard of integrity and accountability, and collaboration with State government agencies and key stakeholders. Together, we are focused on delivering the State Government’s priorities for the community.

Our Transport Strategic Plan 2025-2029 (PDF 16MB) sets the direction for our business planning, enabling us to serve the Western Australian community with effective, community-centric and sustainable transport solutions and services. It also guides our people in their pursuit to deliver modern regulation, relevant knowledge and learning, and enhanced safety and security for the community.

Our Strategic Plan has four priorities:

Community first

We deliver connected, accessible and safe transport by prioritising digital transformation, removing barriers and making evidence-based, people-focused decisions that support wellbeing and inclusivity.

Safe and sustainable transport

We collaborate to deliver climate-resilient, integrated transport solutions that supports jobs, reduces emissions, and ensures all Western Australians can access the services and infrastructure they need.

Strong governance

We build community trust by leading with integrity, safeguarding information, and investing in secure, reliable transport systems that deliver lasting public value.

Empower our people

We invest in diverse, capable people and provide them with responsive and secure systems, enabling them to deliver safe, sustainable, and accessible transport solutions that improve lives.
