The Shared Use Mooring System (SUMS) allows recreational vessel owners to access participating moorings for short-term use when they are not being used by the licensed mooring holder.
Vessel owners can purchase a SUMS authorisation through DoTDirect.
This guide explains how to purchase a shared use mooring authorisation.
Step 1: Log in to DoTDirect
To purchase a Shared use Mooring Authorisation (SUMA) online, you must login to your DoTDirect account here.

Step 2: Navigate to the recreational boats page
Once logged in to DoTDirect, use the top navigation bar to navigate to the 'Recreational boats' page, which can be found under the 'Marine' drop down.
Step 3: Select the boat for the SUMA sticker
On the 'Recreational boats' page, you will be able to find all of the vessels registered to your account.
Click on the boat you want to purchase the SUMA sticker for.
Step 4: Purchase shared use mooring authorisation
Click the ‘Purchase shared use mooring authorisation’ button located at the bottom of the page.
Step 5: Review boat details
Review the boat details below and ensure you are purchasing the SUMA for the correct boat.
- Registration Number
- Registration Status
- Boat Make
- Registration Expiry
- SUMA details and conditions
Tick the check box to indicate you have reviewed relevant order details, and you confirm the information is correct.
Step 6: Add to trolley
Click the ‘Add to trolley’ button.
Step 7: Review trolley
Review your trolley and check the details are correct, then click the ‘Next’ button
Step 8: Confirm details
Review the details displayed on your screen and confirm they are correct, then tick the check box to confirm.
Step 9: Proceed to payment
Click the ‘Proceed to payment’ button on the right-hand side of the page.
Step 10: Enter payment details
Enter your credit card payment details, ensure all fields are completed and accurate.
Step 10: Process payment
Click ‘Process payment’ button, located on the left-hand side of the page.
Step 11: Confirmation of payment
Confirmation of payment page will display when payment is successful.
You can download a payment receipt summary, by clicking the ‘Download receipt’ button located on the right-hand side of the page.
Step 12: Confirmation email
A confirmation email will be sent to the nominated email address listed on your DoTDirect account.
