Announcements

From 1 November 2025, the Experienced Driver Recognised Country category no longer exists in Western Australia (WA).

There were 16 countries and jurisdictions recognised under this category:

  • Bulgaria
  • Czech Republic
  • Estonia
  • Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China)
  • Hungary
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Poland
  • Republic of Cyprus
  • Republic of Korea (South Korea)
  • Republic of Serbia
  • Romania
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • South Africa
  • Taipei (Taiwan)

If you held a driver’s licence from one of the countries country above and did not apply for a WA car or motorcycle driver’s licence on or before 31 October 2025, you will now need to pass a theory test and Practical Driving Assessment to obtain a WA driver’s licence.
