DTMI dredging underway at Lancelin Jetty will also help combat severe erosion of the coastline to the north.
Approximately 14,000 cubic metres of sand will be removed from the jetty basin and approach channel, then pumped through a pipeline onto beaches to the north replenishing and widening areas subject to severe erosion while also restoring safe navigation at Lancelin Jetty.
The dredging campaign, previously planned for April 2027, was fast tracked to complement other measures being implemented to buy time for long-term decision making on how to best address rapid erosion threatening the coastline.
In August the State Government confirmed up to $1.1 million in additional and redirected funds for a rock bag wall to be implemented at North Lancelin, providing a five-year interim fix.
Together these measures provide interim protection while the Shire continues longer-term analysis and planning to update existing information on coastal processes, to provide a better understanding of the performance and impact of structural interventions.
