Regional freight plan
The 2013 Western Australian Regional Freight Transport Network Plan is a comprehensive and integrated strategic plan for freight transport across regional Western Australia to 2031.
The plan covers the planning, policy and project priorities to meet WA’s regional freight demands across road, rail and ports.
In response to a recommendation in the 2020 Infrastructure WA State Infrastructure Strategy, DoT is developing a new Regional Freight Strategy to guide government and industry investment over the 10-year period from 2025 to 2035. In addition to shifting global trends, key driver of change since 2013 that will be explored include supply chain resilience, decarbonisation, and emerging technologies
Revitalising Agricultural Region Freight Strategy
The Revitalising Agricultural Region Freight Strategy sets the direction for future investment in freight infrastructure in the key agricultural regions of WA.
The strategy identifies and prioritises infrastructure and policy improvements that will help to make freight transport in WA’s agricultural regions more productive, efficient and safer.
The implementation of rail infrastructure upgrades highlighted in the Revitalising Agricultural Region Freight Strategy is being delivered through the Agricultural Supply Chain Improvements (ASCI) program.
South West Supply Chain Strategy
The South West Supply Chain Strategy sets the framework and direction for freight transport investment in the South West, identifying future road, rail, air and port infrastructure requirements in the South West region for the next 10-15 years.
The South West region plays an important role in WA’s economy handling large volumes of bulk imports and exports associated with mining, agriculture and forestry.
The strategy focuses on the supply chains of alumina/bauxite, lithium, caustic soda, timber, grain, agribusiness, mineral sands, copper concentrate and container freight that originate or terminate in the South West region.
The proposed initiatives in the strategy aim to meet the objectives of connected and continuous supply chains, seamless modal integration, optimised infrastructure and policy, regional economic growth, and improved efficiency and road safety.
