The Department of Transport (DoT) manages more than 30 harbours and maritime facilities along the WA coast, including the award-winning Hillarys Boat Harbour and the iconic Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour.

Work is underway to revitalise and enrich these unique coastal destinations which attract millions of visitors each year, provide important social hubs and local employment - boosting the State economy.

The visionary Fremantle Harbours Master Plan will guide and balance the development of the iconic Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour and adjoining Challenger and Success harbours for the next 40 years, while at Hillarys, the Hillarys Boat Harbour Activation Masterplan sets the scene for transformation of this important community asset.

In addition, DoT’s 40-year Exmouth Boat Harbour Master Plan envisions the creation of a tourism and hospitality precinct with a boutique hotel overlooking the marina and Exmouth Gulf, along with commercial spaces and premium dining and retail venues.

Our boat harbours are some of the best across the nation and regarded as great places to visit for the experiences they offer.

Having marked its first 10 years of operation, Augusta Boat Harbour is an example of the benefits that come from DoT’s involvement in all stages of the development of a new boat harbour from initial planning to construction and now in the day-to-day management of the facility.

Masterplans are seen as vital future blueprints for each facility that are informed by our successful management of a diverse network of coastal facilities which all deliver an essential service to the commercial fishing, charter and tourism sectors.
