Narrator: Getting your learner's permit, driver's licence, or photo card can be a breeze.

Narrator: But first, we need to talk papers!
The Department of Transport needs to see some papers that show us who you are to keep your identity safe.

Narrator: You need five different originals to begin your journey.
You could show us your birth certificate and Medicare card, a bank card, a bank statement, and a letter from the government that shows where you live.

Narrator: There are lots of options, but once you've got your five papers, you're ready to apply.

Narrator: Having your driver's licence means more than just cruising from A to B.

Narrator: It opens up the door to medical help, a social life, an education, and a job.

Narrator: But, before you hit the road, you'll need a few things. Your ID some money, and a set of wheels.

Narrator: So, buckle up.

Narrator: Your first stop - a learner’s permit.

Narrator: Learn the road rules and pass the theory and eyesight tests.

Narrator: Your second stop is some driving lessons.

[Text on screen: 50 hours required. Including 5 at night.]
Narrator: A minimum of 50 hours of supervised driving is required, including five at night.

Narrator: And after at least six months on your Ls, your third stop will be the hazard perception test.

Narrator: Now it's all about getting more experience driving in different road, traffic and weather conditions to become a safe and confident driver.

Narrator: Your last stop is the driving test.

Narrator: Once you've passed your driving test, you've got your provisional driver's licence.

You will be on your Ps for two years, where you will gain more skills and experience to be a safer and fully licensed driver.

Narrator: Make sure not to drive tired and always look out for hazards and distractions.

Narrator: Don't forget your P-plates when driving and after six months you can swap them over from red to green.
