Towing businesses in the South West must now apply for authorisation to conduct regulated crash towing.
The new requirement is part of ongoing reforms to create a safe, fair and efficient towing industry for Western Australians. Similar authorisations were required for towing operators in Perth and Perth from September 1.
The authorisation is part of several requirements for towing businesses, including ‘fit and proper’ persons stipulations, public interest considerations and storage yard minimum standards.
Applications for authorisations opened on 1 July, with the requirement to have an approved authorisation in place progressively rolled out across the State, starting from 1 September in Perth and Peel and 1 October in the South West.
A towing business that continues to operate in Perth, Peel and the South West without an authorisation faces fines up to $200,000.
