WA Bicycle Network Grants Program

About the Western Australian Bicycle Network Grants Program

The WABN Grants Program is administered by the Department of Transport and matches local government expenditure dollar-for-dollar (up to 50 per cent of the total project cost) for the design and construction of active transport infrastructure.

The program aims to ensure walking and riding infrastructure is safe, accessible, connected and continuous across local government boundaries.

The Program is structured to fund: infrastructure projects (design and/or construction), Local Bike Planning projects, and Active Travel Officers.

The metropolitan stream of the WABN Grants Program (infrastructure design and/or construction) underwent a refresh in 2024 to better maximise the State Government’s strong investment in public transport infrastructure to the priorities of the long-term cycle network

Regional projects that submitted for infrastructure funding needed to consider the relevant regional 2050 cycling strategy. Regional local governments without a strategy were encouraged to apply for funding for projects that connect town centres and schools, as well as those creating cycle tourism or recreational opportunities.

It is anticipated that the next intake for metropolitan infrastructure projects will open in mid-2025. To keep up to date with the latest information, subscribe to WABN e-News.
