DTMI’s reputation for delivering high quality major coastal infrastructure projects is further enhanced with the recent completion of rock work on the new 460 metre northern breakwater at Casuarina Boat Harbour at Bunbury.
The structure was completed on schedule and budget, clearing the way for the implementation of roads, services and the planned fishing platform.
The $69.2 million breakwater contract also included works to upgrade the Koombana groyne, and is the largest project in the wider Stage 3.1 of Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront (TBW), which is supported with $112.2 million from the State Government.
Since the initial dredging of the breakwater footprint in late 2024 saw more than 120,000 cubic metres of material relocated, there’s been more than a year of hard work on the construction of the rock structure, with 290,000 tonnes of core rock and 65,000 tonnes of smaller armour placed.
As a delivery partner working closely with the South West Development Commission, DTMI contracted a joint venture involving WA based and owned companies WA Limestone Contracting and Italia Stone Group to complete the dredging and rock works.
New permanent navigation aids have been installed on the breakwater and at the end of Jetty Road to assist skippers as they navigate the narrower entrance to the harbour.
