Perth locals have an opportunity to gain rich insights to Noongar culture on Beeloo (South Perth and Cannington) and Kaarta Gar-up (Kings Park).

During Bunuru (March) and Djeran (May), two series of weekly guided bike rides will explore cultural customs, storytelling and connection. The gentle-paced rides have a focus on developing bike skills and are part of a program of bike riding events delivered by the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI).

Biboolmirn Noongar Joe Collard and Traditional Owner Olman Walley will share hosting roles, taking participants along local riding routes and stopping to observe culturally important sites along the way.

DTMI Manager Behaviour Change Helen Ginbey said it’s a great opportunity acknowledge and learn about our shared history and stories.

“Learning while riding through our amazing boodja (Country) offers a fun, interactive and engaging way to discover the local area.

“These sessions are a great lead-in to National Reconciliation Week - taking place from 27 May to 3 June - allowing an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to learn about Noongar culture, our shared history and pay respect to the lands that we’re so lucky to call home.

“The series will hopefully inspire participants to ride more often around our beautiful city, pause, reflect, notice their surroundings and take responsibility to further their learning about Noongar culture.”
