Tahlia joined the McGovern Foundation’s Wanderer Program in February 2024, funded by the Delivering Community Services in Partnership pilot program. She was referred to the program after her sister successfully obtained her licence with support from the same program.
Despite having to juggle a change of address and caring for her children, Tahlia stayed committed to her lessons to hone her skills with the guidance and support of her mentor, Astrid.
“Relief is what I felt,” Tahlia said. “I am so happy I have my licence. Astrid was the best. She was so understanding and helped me far more than just driving. This has changed my life.”
With her licence in hand, Tahlia can now safely transport her children to school and medical appointments. Her determination and resilience have opened the door to greater independence and stability for her family.
Astrid, her driver mentor, described Tahlia as a caring and committed young woman.
“We’re so proud of her achievement and wish her all the best for the future,” she said.
