Limits by vessel type
The table below provides the maximum offshore limits for grandfathered domestic commercial Class 4 hire and drive vessels below 7.5 metres in length operating in Western Australian waters.

1 nautical mile (nm) = 1.85 kilometres.
The following limits apply to 'grandfathered' sealed deck leisure craft 5.5 metres and over operating in the locations specified below.
Dampier Archipelago
Grandfathered Hire-and-drive vessels 5.5 metres and over are restricted to operations within, and up to 500 metres outside of, the area bounded by a line:
- North from the mainland shore through the western shore of Egret Island.
- Straight and northerly to Bare Rock.
- North-easterly to the northern shore of Kendrew Island.
- Straight to the northern shore of Brigadier Island.
- Straight to Cape Legendre on Legendre Island.
- Straight east-south-easterly to the north-west of Delambre Island.
- Along the eastern side of Delambre Island reefs to the reefs' southernmost tip.
- Due south to Dixon Island and the mainland.

Shark Bay
Grandfathered Hire-and-drive vessels 5.5 metres and over are restricted to operations within the confines of Henri Freycinet Harbour and Freycinet Reach to a limit of a line drawn:
- Due east from the eastern extremity of Quoin Bluff South (Dirk Hartog Island) for 500 metres (to approximately E113°09.7 S25°53.3).
- Straight on a bearing of 150 degrees true to a point 45 degrees true from Tumbledown Point (approximately E113°14.5 S26°00.9).
- Straight on a bearing 45 degrees true to Peron Peninsula (approximately 500 metres south-east of Middle Bluff).
South of Dirk Hartog Island, operations are also limited to east of a line drawn from Surf Point on Dirk Hartog Island due south to the mainland.

Exmouth (Murion Islands)
Grandfathered Hire-and-drive vessels 5.5 metres and over are restricted to operations within 2 nautical miles of South and North Muiron Islands, and also in waters bounded by:
- Straight line from the shore of North West Cape to its western tangent with the 2 nautical mile limit.
- Continuation of the 2 nautical mile limit north-east and south-east around North Muiron Island.
- Tangent with the 2 nautical mile limit in a southerly direction to the eastern shore of Sunday Island.
- Straight line to the mainland at Point Murat.

Thevenard Island
Grandfathered Hire-and-drive vessels 5.5 metres and over are restricted to operations within 2 nautical miles of Thevenard Island and in waters also bounded by:
- Straight line commencing on the mainland shore west of Onslow and running due north through Ashburton Island to where it forms a tangent to the 2 nautical mile limit.
- 2 nautical mile limit around Thevenard Island.
- Straight line to the mainland which is tangential to the eastern side of the 2 nautical mile limit and intersects the north-east shore of Direction Island.

Rottnest Island
Grandfathered Hire-and-drive vessels 5.5 metres and over are restricted to operations within 2 nautical miles of Rottnest Island and also in waters bounded by:
- Line from John Point (Rockingham) to Collie Head on Garden Island.
- Eastern and northern shores of Garden Island.
- Line from Entrance Point on Garden Island to Parker Point on Rottnest Island.
- Eastern shore of Rottnest Island to Bathurst Point.
- Line due east from Bathurst Point to the mainland shore.

Grandfathered Hire-and-drive vessels power dinghies are only approved for operations up to 2 nautical miles from the coast.
