Schools geared up to support walking and bike riding
Insights and resources for the Department of Transport
As part of our Your Move Super Boost initiative, 48 schools have been awarded with subsidised bike education packages.
Super Boost is an application-based program for eligible Your Move schools in Term 2 that better equips kids with the skills and confidence they need to ride safely to and from school.
The Department of Transport’s Manager Travel Behaviour Change, Helen Ginbey said the Super Boost was a fantastic opportunity for schools to access a range of active transport initiatives at no cost.
“Our Your Move schools already do an amazing job of encouraging and motivating students and their families to get out of the car and walk, wheel or ride to school more often,” she said.
“The Department is so pleased to be able to bolster their efforts by providing these free bike safety and education programs.
“An initiative like this not only gives kids the practical skills and confidence they need to ride a bike safely, but also gives them the tools to establish a healthy habit for life.”
For the first time, a ‘Ride of Passage’ package was also awarded as part of the initiative. Henley Brook Primary School was the lucky winner and will receive customised support throughout the entire year to increase walking, riding, scooting and public transport for the school journey.
