How to license a new or existing commercial jetty or modify an existing commercial jetty.
A commercial jetty is a structure that is used for any commercial activity.
Erect and construct a new commercial jetty
If the structure does not physically exist, you may apply for an Erect and Construct Jetty Licence.
Your application must include:
- Completed Jetty Licence Application form
- Copy of the certificate of registration from ASIC, showing the ABN
- Copy of the certificate of title showing ownership for the property or land to where the structure is situated
- Copies of all relevant local government or other authority approvals including engineering plans.
Once the jetty structure has been built in accordance with the timeframe approved by the local authority, you must complete a statutory declaration before the Use and Maintain licence can be issued.
Applications submitted in a private individual person’s name will be declined.
Business guarantor declaration or bank guarantor/cash bond
You application will be assessed, and you will advised if you need to obtain a business guarantor declaration or bank guarantor/cash bond before the licence is granted.

License an existing commercial jetty
If you have purchased property or land with an existing jetty or structure which may or may not be legally owned by you, you will need to apply for an existing jetty licence.
Your application must include:
- Completed Jetty Licence Application form
- Copy of the certificate of registration from ASIC, showing the ABN
- Copy of the certificate of title showing ownership for the property or land to where the structure is situated
- Copies of all relevant local government or other authority approvals including engineering plans.
- If you do not own the land to which the jetty or structure is upon, approval from the landowner to obtain a licence for the infrastructure.
Business guarantor declaration or bank guarantor/cash bond
You application will be assessed, and you will advised if you need to obtain a business guarantor declaration or bank guarantor/cash bond before the licence is granted.

Modify an existing commercial jetty
You must apply for a modification to an existing commercial jetty if you plan to:
- Change the type of activity your jetty is used for, such as changing a commercial jetty to one used for private activity.
- Change and modify the jetty structure from its original construction, including:
- new piles
- a change to the shape or size of the jetty (footprint)
- jetty add-on (e.g. boat lifter)
- anything related to the construction and foundation of the structure which may be under water.
Your application must include:
- a completed Jetty Licence Application Modification of Existing Structures form
- a copy of the company's Certificate of Incorporation
- the names and addresses of the company directors
- the company’s ACN or ABN
- complete marine engineers drawings or sketches of structure and its location in relation to land. (For erect and construct a new jetty licence only)
- photograph, date and time stamped of existing structure if applicable
- copies of all relevant local government or other authority approvals including engineering plans.

How to pay your fees
You can pay your jetty licence and renewal fees by:
- DoTDirect online
- telephone 1300 655 322 for payment by Mastercard or VISA (available 24 hours)
- call 13 11 56, select option 5 and option 2 to speak to a Maritime Licensing Officer
- visit at DoT Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre and show your invoice or licence application.
