Families from Gosnells and nearby suburbs are invited to join the Gozzy Pedal Palooza, a free family fun bike riding adventure being held on Saturdays in August.

Gozzy Pedal Palooza will happen on the 10th,17th, 24th and 31st of August between 1pm and 3pm at the Richard Rushton Community Centre, 24 Baron Way, Gosnells.

During the two-hour sessions everyone will have an opportunity to boost their bike riding skills and confidence through interactive activities such as treasure hunts and obstacle courses, and have the condition of their bikes checked by a professional bike mechanic.

Each Saturday afternoon session will start from the Richard Rushton Community Centre and include indoor and outdoor activities.

The distance travelled around the local area will increase slightly each week.

Gozzy Pedal Palooza is being delivered by the Department of Transport in partnership with the City of Gosnells and Cycle Sense.

It is part of the Armadale Line Active Travel project, which is using the Armadale Line shutdown to encourage people to discover more active ways to travel for short trips, instead of driving.

Department of Transport Director of Active Transport Michelle Prior said the transformation of the Armadale Line was an ideal time for families to rediscover bike riding.

“Many families have bikes sitting in the garage, but not many opportunities to get out and do things together,” Ms Prior said.

“Having organised, family-oriented bike-riding activities encourages families to spend time together, getting exercise and seeing the facilities available in their area.”

The Armadale Line Active Travel project is being delivered by the Department of Transport in partnership with METRONET and the Public Transport Authority in collaboration with local governments and schools.

The project supports and encourages people to walk, wheel and ride for local trips such as school, shops and to bus stations during the shutdown period.

“People’s travel choices are habitual and with the Armadale Line shutdown, people’s travel habits are being disrupted,” Ms Prior said.

“We’re encouraging people to use the disruption as an opportunity to find new, active ways of getting around their neighbourhood.”

Registration for Gozzy Pedal Palooza is essential, as places are limited. Register now
