Ashvita and her mother both enrolled in the MEEDAC’s driving program to get their licence.

Ashvita worked closely with MEEDAC’s driving instructor Amanada, ensuring driving lessons were conducted in the morning so Ashvita’s schooling wasn’t interrupted.

“The ability to do lessons with an instructor was such an opportunity to learn all the rules and make sure I could drive safely. My dad is a good driver, but I learnt so much more driving with Amanda,” said Ashvita.

Amanda said she had never met a more studious and conscientious person, with Ashvita asking for extra study to better understand the road rules.

“The day I did my test, I had an interview in the afternoon. The employer said, if you get your licence, you have the job. I got the licence, and I got the job,” said Ashvita.

Ashvita was able to help out and drive her brother to school and sports as well as assisting her mum while her dad was overseas.

“I’ve enjoyed meeting Ashvita’s family, learning about her culture and being part of the journey,” said Amanda.

MEEDAC is a Driving Access and Equity Program (DAEP) grant recipient. DAEP supports community-based organisations help improve access to suitable driving services, instructors and vehicles.
