Clarissa's licence a life changer
Insights and resources for the Department of Transport
On a recent visit to Esperance, Department of Transport’s Remote Service team worked with Clarissa, a 20-year-old mother of three kids under the age of three who had moved from Kalgoorlie to Esperance last year to create a better life for her and her children.
With one of her children born with a medical condition requiring frequent trips to specialists in Perth and no family support, Clarissa relied on the help of a couple of her friends to drive her to Perth or catching the bus to attend these essential appointments.
Clarissa was a participant of the Esperance Tjaltjraak Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (ETNTAC), which receives grant funding through the Driving Access and Equity Program.
Remote Service officer Lisa conducted Clarissa’s driving assessment and said she was very nervous and overwhelmed once she passed, as this was life changing for her.
“She has saved up and bought a car and this will now enable her to travel to and from Perth herself and not have to rely on others or public transport anymore,” said Lisa.
