Emileo, a 19-year-old from Broome, needed a few driving lessons to polish up his driving skills before he booked his practical driving assessment.

Having already completed his 50 hours of supervised driving while working on the construction of a bridge in Fitzroy Crossing, Emileo reached out to Kullari Regional Communities Indigenous Corporation (KRCIC) driving training program, to help him brush up on his skills and prepare for the driving assessment.

“I wanted to make sure I was fully prepared, so I took a few lessons with Fred from Kullarri to brush up on my skills, passing the PDA on the first try was a great feeling," said Emileo.

Once he had his licence Emileo engaged with KRCIC once again for support in exploring job opportunities in town.

Over the course of a few weeks Emileo and Fred, his driving instructor, identified potential job opportunities and prepared for interviews and Emileo was successful in securing employment.

"I'm grateful for the assistance I received from the Kullarri team. They helped me navigate the job market and provided valuable support every step of the way,” said Emileo.

The Driving Access and Equity Program provides grants to organisations like KRCIC to provide tailored assistance to community members that face barriers when going for their licence.
