Stella started off terrified of getting her driver’s licence, and was reluctant to let her family teach her how.

In hopes of overcoming her fear and lack of confidence Stella, who resides in Geraldton, enrolled with MEEDAC, a Driving Access and Equity Program grant funded organisation.

Understanding Stella’s fear, MEEDAC’s driving instructor Amanda worked with Stella, starting off slow and practising with her in a parking lot. As her knowledge and understanding of road rules and safe driving techniques grew, so did her confidence until she was eventually ready to head onto the main roads.

Stella was getting ready to leave school and knew she would need to get her licence as her job was on the other side of town and she was hoping to make her casual job full time.

“Everything has come together for me, and I am so thankful to Amanda for the patience and time she has given me. Above all, this opportunity made all the difference in me getting my licence or not. It’s been a game changer,” said Stella.

After achieving her goal of getting a licence Stella was able to secure full-time employment in childcare.

Driving instructor Amanda, said "I enjoyed spending time with Stella so much and meeting her family and younger sister."

“Although she’s a few years away, I reckon Stella’s younger sister would like to have a go now! Well done, Stella,” said Amanda.
