Narrah on the wave to success
Insights and resources for the Department of Transport
Narrah, a 17-year-old from Esperance has grown up next to the sea, so it’s hardly a surprise that his surfboard can usually be found on the roof racks of his car.
Narrah credits the Driver Access Equity Program participant, Esperance Tjaltjraak Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (ETNTAC), for helping him gain the confidence needed to get behind the wheel.
Having supervised driving time and access to a car offered by ETNTAC, made a big difference in obtaining his driver’s licence.
“I enjoyed the program, it allowed me to get the hours done, and gain confidence driving with people I might not know. That then gave me the confidence to do the test,” Narrah said.
Narrah passed his driving test and recently started working with Water Corporation in the civil operations team, having a driver’s licence has proven to be crucial for the job.
Now Narrah has the freedom to drive to catch the best waves and the independence to drive for his work.
“We drive all over the place, it is not all work. Having a licence enabled me to go to beaches, camping with my mates, or making his way to the Wave Rock Weekender music festival.” Narrah said.
“It gives me the freedom to travel.”
