Damon’s employer was very keen for him to get his licence and were proactive in supporting and encouraging him to have some lessons with the McGovern Foundation, an initiative supported by the Driving Access and Equity Program, even allowing Damon to have lessons during work hours

After Damon failed his driving test for the second time, he stopped turning up to work and stopped lessons with the McGovern Foundation. Henry, a mentor at the McGovern Foundation, never gave up on Damon and even went to his house to encourage him to keep trying and get back in the car.

Henry took Damon to book his test for the following week and after two more lessons he passed his test!

“I failed my test and lost a lot of confidence. Jamie, my boss, contacted Henry from the Wanderer Program to help me. I did a few lessons and failed my test again and I was very disappointed,” said Damon.

“After a few weeks of not answering my phone Henry came to my house. Henry talked about not letting small let downs get in the way of getting my licence. I did a few more lessons and finally passed my test. I owe a lot to Henry, he never gave up.”

After passing his test Damon was given a set of keys for the new work car he could now drive. Damon was very proud of himself, and it was great to see such a supportive employer.
