Driver’s licence a ticket to independence for Stuart
Insights and resources for the Department of Transport
Stuart had completed 75 hours in his logbook before it was unfortunately lost. He has an intellectual disability and struggles with literacy, and didn’t believe he would get another chance to get his licence.
PCYC have worked with Stuart to teach him basic literacy skills so that he could succeed on his licensing journey. The team at PCYC which is a Driving Access and Equity Program grant funded organisation, have also provided lessons for Stuart, while the Department of Transport team supported Stuart to complete the Hazard Perception Test, after several failed attempts.
Stuart has shown amazing perseverance and determination to stick with the process given the barriers he has faced and has now obtained his driver’s licence!
“I am so glad that I can drive myself to work now and not have to rely on my partner. I am really grateful to PCYC for all the support they have given me through this process,” said Stuart.
“The PCYC team are family to me now.”
