Old4New lifejacket upgrade opportunities in time for Father's Day

Woodman Point and Hillarys Boat Harbour are the next stops for the Department of Transport's (DoT) very successful Old4New lifejacket upgrade program - just in time for Father's Day.

DoT Safety Education Manager Laurie Adams said a lifejacket was the perfect Father's Day gift for a Dad who enjoys boating or the growing number of on water activities requiring a lifejacket.

"Delivered in conjunction with the Royal Life Saving Society of Western Australia, Old4New allows old, damaged, obsolete or foam filled lifejackets to be exchanged for a voucher for use at a local retail outlet when purchasing a new lifejacket," Mr Adams said.

"It is a hugely successful program and this year has seen about 1,000 unsafe lifejackets taken off boats in WA."

Voucher limits and restrictions are in place to ensure the benefits of the program apply to as many vessels as possible so people who want to participate should check the guidelines on the Lifejackets page.

The Old4New initiative spearheads a State-wide education campaign promoting the benefits of wearing lifejackets at all times while boating.

"The aim is to change people's behaviour and improve the safety of people who enjoy boating in WA," Mr Adams said.

Skippers can participate in the Old4New program at the following locations:

  • Woodman Point Boat Ramp: 9am to 11am, Saturday 26 August 2017
  • Hillarys Boat Harbour Boat Ramp: 9am to 11am, Sunday 27 August 2017
