WA company wins major boat pen contract

Wangara based Shorewater Marine has won a major Department of Transport (DoT) contract worth $4.9 million to replace 30 year old facilities at Hillarys Boat Harbour and build new boat pens at Two Rocks Marina.

DoT Coastal Infrastructure General Manager Steve Jenkins said the contract that would deliver real improvements to the DoT marine facilities and users at Hillarys Boat Harbour and Two Rocks Marina.

"At Hillarys Boat Harbour 30 year old floating concrete jetties (B and C) are at the end of their working life and will be replaced allowing for the installation of a new modern floating pen system. Staged demolition work will commence in July ahead of a year-long construction phase," Mr Jenkins said.

The contract accounts for a significant portion of works in the current $6 million Two Rocks Marina upgrade being delivered by the Department of Transport (DoT) and will see the demolition of condemned maritime structures including the original fuel jetty in the coming months, followed by the construction of relocated boat pens later this year.

Mr Jenkins said DoT was working closely with users at both facilities as the temporary relocation of some vessels would be required during the staged works schedule over the next 12 months.

"Shorewater Marine is an experienced local marine construction company and has previously undertaken work to inspect and improve facilities at Hillarys Boat Harbour. Sub-contractors will also be used and the contract is expected to generate six new local jobs," Mr Jenkins said.
