New technologies have been rolled out in Bunbury and Busselton providing improvements to the provisional licence process for regional learner drivers and better customer service.

The iAssess application is now being used for Practical Driving Assessments (PDA) in Bunbury and Busselton, after being rolled out in the metropolitan area.

iAssess links licensing administration systems, which streamlines the processing of assessment records - resulting in reduced waiting times for drivers following their test and enabling applicants to gain a better understanding of safe driving practices through improved feedback.

Sue Lannin, Regional Director Southern Region Department of Transport (DoT) said iAssess had been successfully used in metropolitan Practical Driving Assessments and was now starting to be implemented in the regional areas.

"DoT is rolling out this exciting new technology to the regions, with Bunbury and Busselton the first in the regions to have Practical Driving Assessments with the new iAssess enabled technology," said Ms Lannin.

iAssess has GPS tracking capability as part of an application utilised on a mobile tablet which electronically records the PDA, as well as voice recording whilst in use.

"The GPS technology will enable us to see where learner drivers are having the most difficulty when attempting their Practical Driving Assessment.

"This will help identify trends, showing where key driver behaviour needs to be improved in the region, we can then refine our education to benefit both driving instructors and learner drivers in future," Ms Lannin said.

This new application also coincides with upgrades to a new smart queuing system in the Bunbury DoT Centre, which allows staff to manage customer flow and better direct customers to experts in certain transactions, allowing a more seamless customer experience.

The Department of Transport is investing in a number of customer centric technologies and systems that will continue to improve the customer experience.
