Albany Family Nautical Festival highlighting fun and safety on the water

The Department of Transport will be hosting the Family Nautical Festival on Friday 11 January from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

The family friendly nautical festival will include activities for kids, an opportunity to participate in the Old4New lifejacket upgrade, experience setting off flares safely, twilight sailing, food vans and boat displays.

Department of Transport (DoT) Regional Southern Director, Sue Lannin said that the festival was a great opportunity for the whole family to learn about how to stay safe when enjoying the water.

"We are lucky in the Great Southern to have access to some amazing beaches, lakes and rivers, which all have different conditions and requirements that everyone needs to be aware of, to keep safe while out on the water," said Sue.

"The festival provides a one-stop-shop, with Government agencies and volunteer groups all in one location, making it a great opportunity for Albany residents and visitors to get the latest information and expertise to make their next day on the water a safer one."

The Department of Transport, Southern Ports, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions, Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, along with a range of local organisations, will be at the festival.

Through the Old4New program, delivered by the Department of Transport in conjunction with the Royal Life Saving Society of Western Australia, festival goers will be offered a $15 voucher which can be put towards purchasing a new inflatable lifejacket from a range of local outlets.

The Family Nautical Festival will take place at the Boat Shed, Albany Waterfront Marina between 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
