Have your say on the future of cycling in Esperance

The Department of Transport is inviting the community to have their say on the future of cycling in Esperance.

The Department has partnered with the Shire of Esperance to produce the draft Esperance 2050 Cycling Strategy which is open for public comment until 1 April 2019.

The draft strategy seeks to create a blueprint for connecting and extending cycling infrastructure within the region to enhance riding experiences for residents and to showcase some of the area’s best natural assets to visitors and tourists.

Sarah Court, the Department of Transport’s Regional Bike Network Coordinator said there are many exciting opportunities to further develop cycling infrastructure and create world-class riding experiences in Esperance.

“The draft strategy outlines a range of opportunities, from extending the coastal path to Bandy Creek and beyond, to completing missing links across town and between disconnected suburbs.

“Enhancing local trails which complement the active transport network also provide cycle-tourism experiences which have the potential to attract visitors from further afield and inspire them to stay longer in the region,” she said.

“As part of their feedback we are asking the community to review the draft strategy and identify projects that they believe to be a priority for the region.

“The feedback received will help to shape a short-term action plan that will guide both local and State Government investment over the next five years.”

Feedback on the draft Esperance 2050 Cycling Strategy will be collected between Monday 11 March and Monday 1 April 2019 and can be submitted via the Department of Transport website.
