Families will be able to enjoy new walk trails at Hillarys Boat Harbour and Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour these school holidays.

Department of Transport (DoT) Coastal Facilities Director Donna West said work to mark the trails at each harbour had been completed on schedule, providing a free activity for families during the holiday period and beyond.

“There are three separate trails at both Hillarys and Fremantle differing in length but all showcasing the key attractions at each,” Ms West said.

“Families are encouraged to visit the harbours, enjoy the free walk trails and support the many small businesses at each facility.”

DoT is also developing walking trails at its regional harbours with projects at Augusta Boat Harbour, Bandy Creek Boat Harbour at Esperance and at the Albany Waterfront Marina scheduled for completion by the end of August.

Ms West said DoT was working to support the many small businesses operating from its harbours and marinas along the WA coast.

“The walking trails are a low-cost initiative to attract people to our harbours, many of which are iconic local destinations,” Ms West said.

The design of the trail markers for each harbour feature local marine life with the weedy sea dragon chosen for Hillarys and the western rock lobster for Fremantle after advice from DoT lessee and Hillarys attraction AQWA.

Before visiting each harbour families can download the Hillarys Boat Harbour trail map and the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour trail map then on arrival, follow the colour coded stainless markers placed along each trail.
