The Department of Transport is partnering with the City of Stirling to deliver its successful Your Move program, which aims to get people walking, riding and using public transport more often.

The Department of Transport’s Executive Director Urban Mobility, Justin McKirdy, said Your Move Stirling will help people who live, work and learn in the City of Stirling to live a more active and connected lifestyle.

“Over the coming weeks, the Your Move Stirling team, based locally in Osborne Park, will start providing residents with one-on-one phone coaching and personalised tools and resources to help them incorporate more active travel into their everyday routine,” Mr McKirdy said.

A number of local schools and workplaces are taking part in the program, which will be delivered over the next nine months until May 2021 to support sustainable, long-term travel behaviour change.

The program has previously supported around 25,000 residents across Bassendean, Wanneroo, Cockburn and Victoria Park to get out of the car and get moving on public transport, by bike or foot, with an average five per cent decrease in car trips per participant.

Mr McKirdy said with good access to public transport and significant recent upgrades to walking and cycling infrastructure, the City of Stirling community is well placed to embrace more active travel options.

“I am excited to be partnering with the City of Stirling to deliver this $1.5 million program to provide the community the encouragement and support they need to get moving, whether it’s for transport, fitness or just for fun,” Mr McKirdy said.

“I encourage people who live in the City of Stirling to join Your Move today and take advantage of this free community program.”
