Keep your District plate in the family for generations to come

The Department of Transport knows how special District plates are to Western Australians, with drivers proudly promoting their towns, from A for Albany in the south to WY for Wyndham in the north.

District plate owners have the option to protect their family’s unique letter and number combination by choosing to convert their District plate to an Optional plate, to be passed down through the generations.

Conversion allows the plate owner to be granted the Certificate of Right to Display and Trade, which means the holder of the Certificate may sell the Right to Display and Trade at any price in the open market and have the plate replaced if it is ever lost or stolen.

“Some Western Australian families have kept the same District plate combination for generations,” said Michelle Porter, Department of Transport’s Assistant Director, Customer Support Services.

“The Department of Transport has made the process to convert your District plate to an Optional plate quick and easy, by calling 13 11 56 or visit a DoT Services Centre or agent.”

“This is a great opportunity for people to keep their unique combination, which is part of that family’s identity within their community, forever.”

The fee to convert your District plate to an Optional plate that you own the right to display and trade on is $175.00.

Converting your District plate to an Optional plate is voluntary – it’s entirely up to you.
