Temporary closure of boat ramp at Casuarina Boat Harbour
News for the Department of Transport
Work to improve the trailer parking area at the boat launching ramp at Casuarina Boat Harbour will see the facility temporarily close over the winter months.
The Department of Transport (DoT) is completing a major upgrade of the facility with nearly $2 million to be spent on a new toilet block, increasing the number of trailer bays from 56 to 91, new drainage, improving the surface with an asphalt finish and making provision for the future installation of lighting and CCTV.
The work follows a $1.1 million modernisation of the facility last year with a new floating jetty and better designed two-lane ramp to accommodate large trailers and wide vessels.
DoT Director Project Delivery Cameron Smith said the temporary closure was required to ensure the safety of those working on the project and facility users, and to complete the works more rapidly.
“Skippers will need to use an alternative launch facility from Monday 10 July 2023 until September while the upgrade is undertaken,” Mr Smith said.
“Every effort will be made to limit the duration of the closure and the work has been timed to occur in the off-peak season to minimise the disruption to the local boating community.
“The upgrade, which is part of the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront (TBW) project, will deliver a significantly improved facility for users and we ask for their patience and understanding during the work to complete the upgrade.”
Used for both commercial and recreational craft, the Casuarina launch ramp is one of the busiest in Bunbury with thousands of launches a year.
