WA Bike Month is back for another year, with a buffet of bicycle activities on offer for people of all ages and abilities.

The celebration month officially kicked-off yesterday with a Bike Month Blast Off event at Lake Monger, where a crowd of new, novice and rusty riders enjoyed bike quests, BMX workshops, bike skills activities and a treasure hunt.

WA Bike Month is our State’s annual flagship celebration of bike riding and encourages all Western Australians to give pedal-power a go for transport, fun and a healthier lifestyle.

This year, $75,000 in grants was awarded to local governments, schools, workplaces and community groups to host events and activities that encourage participation in bike riding for travel and recreation, and to discover the many paths and riding routes within their localities.

Ashley McCormick, A/Executive Director Urban Mobility, Department of Transport said the celebration month offers something for everyone.

“Whether you are eight or 80, it’s always a good time to give riding a go and take advantage of the great paths in your local areas”, he said.

“This WA Bike Month has seen the highest number of grants ever awarded to host bike riding activities across the State and offers people of all ages and abilities an opportunity to get involved and discover the joys of riding.

“Our sincere thanks to the many workers and volunteers who are facilitating these events – it takes a lot of time, effort and coordination, and I commend you on your ability to bring community together and celebrate the fun and benefits that pedal-power has to offer.

“Happy riding!”
