Discover the joy of bike riding with free community activities held across the Perth metropolitan area.

People of all ages and abilities can take part in events, which range from bike skills and maintenance sessions to treasure hunts and local guided rides that celebrate our vibrant Noongar culture.

Funded by the Department of Transport and running until the end of May, the program of free activities aims to build people’s confidence to ride a bike and discover Perth’s world class paths, trails and facilities in a fun and interactive way.

This year, the new Boorloo Bridge in the heart of the Perth CBD will feature as part of an Epic Bike Quest event. Participants will be able to take in stunning views of the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) and Matagarup (Heirisson Island), while enjoying bike games, discovering captivating art works and exploring the nearby surrounds.

Department of Transport Director of Active Transport Michelle Prior said the program of events will allow people to get out, be active and do things together.

“Having organised, community-oriented bike riding activities encourages people to share in the benefits of bike riding, enjoy their neighbourhood and see what is available in their area,” Ms Prior said.

“We’re excited to incorporate one of Perth’s newest attractions, the iconic Boorloo Bridge, as part of this year’s activities. People will have a chance to experience the bridge together, learn about its creation and admire the stunning public artwork and views along the way.

“Whether a novice or rusty rider, these events offer a fantastic way for people to discover local networks where they can use paths that are separated from traffic, allowing for safer experiences.

“Participants will also be able to uncover connections to local places, and experience how easy it is to incorporate active and cost-efficient travel as part of their everyday journeys.”

Events are being held in the cities of Perth, South Perth, Stirling and Swan, and the Town of Victoria Park. For more information and to register for activities, visit the Department of Transport website or follow the WA Bike Month Facebook page.
