Marine safety programs for schools
Find out about the marine safety programs that the Marine Education Boatshed has developed to help teachers incorporate marine safety in primary and secondary school.
Primary school programs
The Marine Education Boatshed provides great resources and programs for schools and teachers. These include:
- Marine Safety Days.
- Primary school marine safety pack.
- Physical and health education programs.
- Alternative school programs.
These programs can be run directly by Boatshed educators or through suitably qualified teachers and instructors.
Marine safety days
The Marine Education Boatshed holds Marine Safety Days for primary school students, during which they will be involved in activities such as:
- Rowing.
- Sailing.
- Canoeing.
- Survival swimming.
- Snorkelling.
- Swamping and capsizing exercises a small power boat.
The aim is to provide an intense day of marine safety education, which can be tailored to meet the individual needs of each school.
Primary school marine safety pack
The primary pack is aimed at primary school students in Years 3, 4 and 5. It introduces important marine safety concepts, including:
- Safe use of boats.
- Personal boating safety.
- Safety of others when boating.

Secondary school programs
The Marine Education Boatshed offers a range of secondary school programs that integrate into Western Australian Certificate of Education courses, such as:
- Marine and maritime studies.
- Outdoor education.
Secondary school marine safety pack
The secondary school marine safety pack incorporates the Recreational Skipper's Ticket theory component, and integrates into the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) Marine and Maritime Studies course.
Seatrek program
The Seatrek program involves sailing expeditions along our spectacular coastline, and integrates into the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) Outdoor Education course.
